A SPRING TOUR TO THE NORTH CAROLINA MUSEUM OF ART IN RALEIGH

SPECIAL EXHIBITION - AMERICAN IMPRESSIONIST: CHILDE HASSAM AND THE ISLES OF SHOALS

Tuesday, March 29th, 2016
Cost: $35 includes lunch in the Museum Restaurant, tickets for two special exhibitions and docent-led tour of the Childe Hassam exhibition. The second special show is MARKS OF GENIUS: 100 Extraordinary Drawings from the Minneapolis Institute of Art.

Transportation will be carpooling with other WAA members (if you are willing, please let Ann Lees know that you are able to drive and take others)

Our group will be limited to thirty, as each docent tour is for 15 people. So we will need about seven or eight drivers, depending on the size of the vehicle. From Wilmington to NCMA is around 135 miles.

Lunch is arranged for 11.30am and the tours of the Childe Hassam exhibition at 1pm. This traveling exhibition promises to be enthralling! Both before and after lunch, we shall wander the Marks of Genius show, and marvel at the NCMA permanent holdings, their amazing collection of Rodin sculpture, European Renaissance to 19C paintings, American art of the 18thC to the 20C, African, pre-Columbian, and Jewish ceremonial objects.
Please register as soon as possible online at wilmingtonart.org or by mailing a $35 check made out to Wilmington Art Association to: Ann Lees, 624 Woodland Forest Court, Wilmington, NC 28403. The deadline is March 10th. 2016.

We hope that you will take this opportunity to visit a world-class exhibition!

Hello to everyone who signed up for the trip to NCMA on March 29th.

I am so glad that you will be joining us for the Childe Hassam exhibition at the North Carolina Museum of Art on Tuesday, March 29th.  Please let your friends know about it.  You don't have to be a WAA member to join us.  I know that we'll have a splendid time and that the exhibitions and lunch will be thoroughly enjoyable.  I have attached a description of the trip.

The Museum needs a head count for their docent-led tours and the lunch as soon as possible.  So let me know that you're coming and send a $35 check, made out to WAA, to me or register online at http://www.wilmingtonart.org./  My address is 624 Woodland Forest Court.  We also need to know who will drive.  So far, we have offers from Jane Capen, Anthony Lees, and Barbara Salisbury, and a maybe from another member.

I look forward to hearing from you all and discussing start times and meeting-up location.

Thank you for replying soon!

Spring Show

The Azalea Festival will be here the first week in April and along with it the Wilmington Art Association's biggest event of the year, the Spring Show.
Many of you have already submitted your art for the show. Good for you!
Some of you may still be contemplating and need to make decisions. Time is running out!
And there are others in the Wilmington area who are not involved in WAA and know nothing about the show. We encourage you to tell interested friends about it. They can go to the website for more information if they want to enter.

Remember that February 29 is the deadline for everything! Registration must be done prior to that date, and then digital photos of your submissions may be sent in.

Members are invited to the opening reception Thursday April 7 from 5 to 7 pm.
The show will run the next three days: Friday and Saturday (April 8 and 9) from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday April 10 from 10 am to 4 pm.
At the close of the show on Sunday, artists have a two hour window in which to pick up their unsold pieces.

Our last eblast requested monetary donations for the reception in lieu of asking members to bring food from home. Thank you if you have made a donation! If you have not, and if you would like to donate on line, you can. Look for the donate tab on top of the home page of the website. In this case you would receive a receipt from PayPal.
WAA has a 501-C-3 status making it possible for tax deductible donations.
If you donate with a check to the reception or to WAA, that will be your receipt.
If you donate cash, you can get a receipt at the show. Membership dues and entry fees are not tax deductible.

Let's all participate and have a fun time at the Show!

Request for Spring Show Reception Donations

The Reception Committee for the Spring Show is asking for monetary donations from the membership. At the January membership meeting it was decided that the committee will be responsible for providing the food instead of having everyone bring food items.
Donations can be made under the “Donate” link at the top of the WAA page through PayPal.
Any amount would be appreciated – ($10 - $20). We want this to be a lovely event for the WAA since it is a major fund raiser providing scholarships to area students.

Thank you!
