Workshop in July

WHAT:

Workshop by David Kessler
Bigger, Faster, Fresher, Looser Abstract Painting

Workshop Media:
This workshop is non-media specific.
All who utilize watercolor, acrylic, pastel and oil are welcome.

Workshop Description: Have you ever wondered how to Loosen-up your painting style? Paint with more Freedom? Be more Spontaneous? Be more Expressive?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes,
then this Bigger, Faster, Fresher, Looser Abstract Painting Workshop is for you!
David Kessler will teach you how to do each of these, realizing there should also be a firm foundation of structure for your paintings using line, shape, value, color and texture.

Every day there will be discussions, an instructor painting demonstration and a short, timed painting session for students.

Bring with you a happy and positive attitude!

This workshop is not only about painting abstract compositions but also about learning to loosen up and paint more freely.

All who attend will be able to apply the lessons learned to their own style of painting in their studios.

"My emphasis is on the Process of painting and not on the outcome. It is the journey through the
process where discoveries are made, expression is released and your voice is developed."

WHEN: Wednesday July 22nd to Friday July 24th.

WHERE: New Hanover County Arboretum Classroom, Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC.

TIME: 9:00 am until 4:00 pm each day.

Time for Cats!

Thalian Association Community Theatre presents

CATS
Youth Production on 2nd Street Stage
Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center
120 South 2nd Street

May 14th - May17th, 2015
Thursday, Friday & Saturday at 7:00 pm,
Saturday & Sunday at 3:00 pm

Thalian Association Community Theatre will end their youth theatre season with the beloved masterpiece Cats, based on the popular poetry of T. S. Eliot. Join the Jellicle Cats onstage for one weekend only, May 14 through 17, at the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center, 120 South 2nd Street in downtown Wilmington. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7PM; with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 3PM. To purchase tickets visit www.thalian.org or call 910-341-7860.

Cats tells the story, in song and dance, of the annual gathering of Jellicle cats, at which time one special cat is selected to ascend to the Heaviside layer. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s masterpiece comes alive through songs such as “Memory” and is the third longest running Broadway show in history. A true musical theatre phenomenon, Thalian Association Community Theatre presented Cats as a Wilmington premiere in its “Season of Firsts” in 2006. The talented team includes David T. Loudermilk (Director/Choreographer), Katie Richmond Deese (Music Director), and Hoggard High School student Jessi Goei (Assistant Director/Choreographer), with a special appearance by Wilmington theatre sensation, JR Rodriguez.

Another Thalian Community Theatre first, the Wilmington Art Association is hosting an exhibition during the run of Cats featuring the portraits of cast members in the iconic character make-up. The paintings will be on sale to the public, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Community Art Center.

Important News: Changes to Thursday's Meeting!

IMPORTANT CHANGES IN LOCATION AND SPEAKER
WAA Meeting, Thursday May 14th

The location for the WAA meeting this Thursday is changed due to unforeseen circumstances.  THIS MEETING WILL NOT BE AT THE ARBORETUM.

Our venue will be St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 16 North 16th Street, at the corner of 16th and Market.  You enter their parking lot from the rear on Princess Street, and ascend some steps to their parish room.  Meeting starts with a social at 6.30pm and a business meeting at 7pm.

Unfortunately our scheduled speaker, Susan Baehmann, printmaker, has had surgery unexpectedly.  We wish her a speedy recovery. However, I know that you all will be delighted to hear that Linda Hartman has stepped into the breach and will present for us on Thursday.  Linda works in a variety of media and is a charismatic speaker.  Her work is in repoussed copper and aluminum, driftwood, ceramics and painting on metal and canvas.  She will show her unusually creative pieces, and share her philosophy and process.  She says "I am a visual storyteller, an interpreter....it is my great joy to share how I make my art".

Please let other WAA members know of the change in location, particularly those who do not receive Email.

I look forward to seeing you on Thursday,

Ann Lees
WAA Education Chair
