Classes for Teens and Adults at ArtExposure

Introduction to Collage with Mary Ann
Saturday February 21st Intermediate
Saturday March 21st:  Advanced
10:30am - 1:30pm
Fee: $45
A $5 supply fee will be collected at the beginning of class.
There are three classes offered in collage.  The first class will show you how to create your own hand-painted papers.  An Intermediate class will continue the theme on February 21st and an Advanced class on March 21st.

Chalk Paint 101 with Denis Lemay
Saturday February 28
11am-1:00pm
Fee: $35
Supply fee:  Each participant will receive a one quart can of paint and wax for a cost of $60 that will be paid to the instructor on the day of the class.
This is not blackboard paint. Chalk paint is a wonder paint developed in England. It can be used over any surface WITH NO SANDING OR PRIMING. Loved by Shabby Chic furniture painters, it can be distressed and then waxed to give a smooth and professional look.
Bring a small item you would like to refinish. Frames, small shelves or step stools work well. (Something that can be completed in this 2 hour class.) Chalk paint will work on wood or metals. Please also bring a one to two inch brush, a couple of soft rags, one fine sanding block, and a sheet of fine shading paper.

Watercolor Techniques Studio with Mary Ann Rozear
Tuesdays 10am-Noon
This is a continuing class.
Fee: $175 for 6 weeks ($29 per week)
Want to try it first? A per day fee of $35. Join in at any time but preregistration is required.
Mary Ann will show you the basics of creating watercolor washes: wet on wet, wet on dry and dry on wet, along with blending colors and controlling the process. This class is available for walk-ins who would like to try a class or have the instructor help with a project in progress.

Spring Show Info

Our annual Spring Art Show, an important part of Wilmington's Azalea Festival, is right around the corner!

The deadline for submission is midnight March 2, 2015.

However, since we will not be able to pay the entry fee and submit images of our artwork at the same time, it is recommended that, if you intend to enter the show, the entry fee be paid now, even if you have not decided what you will be entering. After you have received confirmation of your payment, you may then send images of your art. But do not wait until the last minute as there may be problems loading.

For the prospectus and more info, please go to the WAA website.

News of the Day

Next Meeting

The program for our upcoming February 12th membership meeting will be presented by metal artist, Michael van Hout.  Michael is well-known for his metalwork and animal sculptures, exhibiting widely including at UNCW and at Cameron Art Museum.  He has recently added the human form with an emphasis on portrait heads and seated figures to his subject matter.  His forms are presented in wire, sheet metal, papier mache, relief prints and wooden sticks.  Michael will share with us his witty, original work and describe his technique through a power point presentation.

As usual the meeting will take place at the New Hanover County Arboretum at 6.30pm, with a business meeting followed by the program.  We look forward to seeing lots of members there.
