Take a look at these simple strategies and decide if you could use any in your life:
- Set aside personal time to pay attention to body, mind and spirit before the workday starts.
- Schedule art business time and family time for best use vs. convenience.
- Assign administrative, business, marketing, workshops/ prep, and studio time to different days of the week.
- Do a weekly or monthly round up of administrative tasks.
- Streamline work processes.
- Interrupt the day with a variety of roles vs. one big task chain.
- Intersperse errands and exercise with business appointments outside of the studio.
- Delegate routine replicable art tasks to free up creative time.
- Hire help for major events.
- Focus on strategy and coordination.
- Choose only the best marketing channels online and in ‘real world.’
- Keep notes on people, plans and results in a journal.
- Take time off.
WAA Bus Trip to Raleigh/Durham
Here's a terrific opportunity to join a tour of two museums with outstanding exhibits! On Tuesday, November 11th, Wilmington Art Association, in conjunction with Cameron Art Museum, is organizing a tour to both the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh and the Nasher Museum at
Duke University in Durham. At NCMA we will have a tour of their Small Treasures show, featuring 66 paintings by the world's greatest Dutch and Flemish painters, including Anthony van Dyck, Adriaen Brouwer, David Teniers, Franz Hals, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Jan Steen and many others.
At the Nasher, there are two special exhibitions. First, there's a show of more than 50 works by artist Joan Miro. Nasher is the only site on the East Coast for this exhibit by the Barcelona-born artist. The exhibit titled "Miro: The Experience of Seeing" covers the final 20 years of the artist's career. It includes 27 sculptures, 18 paintings and six drawings, some of them six feet tall.
Also at the Nasher, there is a Rauschenberg show: "Rauschenberg: Collecting and Connecting". The exhibition offers a fresh look at 34 of Rauschenberg's works spanning six decades of his career, art that he reserved in his own collection.
As we are planning to do all this in one day by bus, the time of departure will be early in the day, probably 6.15 am, returning at 6pm. Lunch will be on your own. Restaurants at NCMA are closed as it is Veteran's Day. We shall be taking a side trip at lunchtime to a nearby plaza with options to suit everybody - or brown bag it!
You will soon be able to sign up and prepay on our website. We'll let you all know when it is open for this. Meanwhile, keep the preliminary date open!! Tuesday, November 11th is the projected date. This is an exciting opportunity to see 'in the flesh' contrasting and world-class exhibits! I anticipate that the cost will be around $50 per person. That includes entry and tours at two museums, the bus, wine, water and snacks on the bus trip, but does not include lunch. Ann Lees
