We would love to welcome your “Earth-Inspired” Art for our very special Exhibit! (Think landscapes, sea scenes, trees, animals, plants, clouds, etc! Anything that is nature-inspired!)We are working as partners with UNCW for this important collaboration:
“During the Fall of 2013, UNCW's Office of Cultural Arts will host eARTh inspired, an interdisciplinary series exploring the intersection of art and science. The initiative, which ties into the university's 2013/14 Synergy Common Read http://www.uncw.edu/commonreading/ (The Wave by Susan Casey), features lectures, workshops, collaborations by scientists and artists and the premiere of two significant new works: “Ocean Calling” by composer Miera Warshauer and “Fables on Global Warming” a marvelous Dance Recital by ARMITAGE GONE! DANCE.”
“As part of eARTh inspired art, UNCW's Office of Cultural Arts is pleased to partner with the Wilmington Art Association to host a special presentation during the opening reception of "Earth Inspired Art" on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013. The presentation will feature an introduction to a new work, entitled, “ Ocean Calling,” by composer Meira Warshauer. “Ocean Calling” is a three-movement piece for two pianos and was inspired by the composer's deep connection to the ocean and her commitment to its preservation. The work utilizes the full range of the pianos’ sonic capabilities to evoke the ocean’s varied sounds and moods, including such non-traditional techniques as plucking, stroking and “bowing” (with glass and horse hair) the strings inside the instrument. In advance of the Oct. 24th World Premiere of
“Ocean Calling,” composer Meira Warshauer and pianists Norman Bemelmans and Elizabeth Loparits will provide an introduction to the new work and a demonstration of some of the more intriguing and unique techniques employed.”
September 27th Fourth Friday – Special Celebration!
Schedule:
6:00 – 6:05pm – Elaine Cooper, WAA President 2013, Introduction.
6:05 – 6:10/6:15pm – Composer, Meira Warsahuer, will introduce her new symphonic work, “Ocean Calling,” addressing the inspiration and departure point for the new work.
6:15 – 6:45pm – UNCW Resident Pianist Norman Bemelmans & Elizabeth Loparits will play short portions of this new symphony and demonstrate the techniques employed by the composer to evoke the ocean’s varied sounds and moods.
